We will see the complete timeline brush up starting from Tanjiro’s heartbreaking beginning till the Swordsmith Village Arc.
What Happened Till now in Demon Slayer? Before Demon Slayar Infinity Castle Arc
Tanjiro’s Tragic Begining:
Tanjiro and his family were living a peaceful and happy life in the mountains. Tanjiro supported his family by selling charcoal in the town, being the elder son in the family, as his father had already passed away. Tanjiro used to sell good-quality charcoal in the town and support his family, as it was his family’s only way to earn money and meet their needs.
One day, when he got stuck at night and couldn’t reach home, a kind villager named Saburo warned him about the demons that roam at night. He provided shelter and food to Tanjiro so he could stay that night and travel home the following morning.
The next morning, when Tanjiro reached home, he saw that his family members had been slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko had transformed into a demon. Tanjiro has a strong sense of smell, which he uses to identify demons. On the same day when his family was slaughtered, Tanjiro sensed the strong smell of a demon and later found that the one responsible for this massacre was Muzan Kibutsuji.
Tanjiro’s Training under Sakonji Urokodaki.
Tanjiro learned that his sister had now turned into a demon, and he was in shock and shattered. Later, he found that his beloved sister, now a demon, started attacking him. Giyu Tomioka, one of the Demon Slayer Hashira, came there to defend Tanjiro from his sister Nezuko. But Tanjiro pleaded with Giyu not to kill Nezuko. Later, when Giyu tried to attack Tanjiro, he found that Nezuko, being a demon, defended her brother from Giyu.
Giyu learned that Nezuko was different from other demons, so he agreed to help Tanjiro and suggested he go to Sakonji Urokodaki, who would train him. Tanjiro then learned about the Demon Slayers and vowed that he would also become one and cure his sister Nezuko, turning her back into a human. Sakonji Urokodaki trained Tanjiro for 2 years. Tanjiro became a good swordsman and learned the Water Breathing technique
Tanjiro’s Selection as Demon Slayer.
After training with Sakonji Urokodaki, Tanjiro had to clear the Final Selection test, which was held on Mt. Fujikasane, a mountain surrounded by lower-rank demons. Only those who survived for a week on this mountain would be considered for the Demon Slayer Corps. Tanjiro survived the test and also earned a Nichirin Blade as his first sword.

Tanjiro’s First Mission.
Tanjiro’s first mission was to investigate the disappearances of young women in a village. He later found that the Swamp Demon was the reason behind them. The Swamp Demon could shapeshift, teleport through puddles, and split into three bodies. Nezuko and Tanjiro fought the demon, showing great teamwork between them. Finally, when Tanjiro asked about his family’s killer, the demon revealed the name of Muzan Kibutsuji. After this mission, Tanjiro received another mission in Tokyo.
Tanjiro saw Muzan first time in Asakusa (Tokyo).
When Tanjiro reached Asakusa, Tokyo, he encountered Muzan Kibutsuji in disguise. Muzan managed to vanish somehow. Later, Tanjiro met two good demons who opposed Muzan—Tamayo and Yushiro. Tamayo was working on a medicine to convert demons back into humans, which could also help Nezuko return to being human again. Muzan sent two demons to kill Tanjiro and Nezuko, but Tanjiro and Nezuko managed to defeat and kill both of them.
During the battle, Tanjiro met Zenitsu, a cowardly but powerful Demon Slayer who fights in a unique state of unconsciousness. Along the way, he also met Inosuke—a tough, hot-headed fighter who’s as wild as he looks, charging into battle while wearing a boar’s head like it’s second nature. Tanjiro later defeated a demon named Kyogai, who could manipulate Tsuzumi Mansion rooms and teleport within them.
After the mission, battered and worn out from their fights, the trio found refuge at the mansion of the Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho, where they were given care, rest, and the chance to rebuild their strength and train.
Tanjiro and Team at Mount Natagumo.
Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu marched toward Mount Natagumo. The mountain was ruled by Rui (Lower Moon Five) and his family of spider demons. All three of them struggled while fighting the demon family. Tanjiro awakened his Hinokami Kagura while battling Rui, and Nezuko unlocked her Blood Demon Art.
Inosuke fought the Father Spider Demon, where he almost lost the battle, but at the same time, Giyu, the Water Hashira, entered and defeated the Father Demon. Zenitsu battled the Son Spider Demon, where he awakened his Thunder Breathing First Form and won, but he was poisoned by the spider demon in the process. Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, also stepped in and killed another spider demon with her poison techniques.
Hashira’s Meeting.
Nezuko and Tanjiro both were brought befor the Hashira’s(the strongest demon slayers). Most of the Hashira’s was in favour of killing Nezuko as she is demon, but Tanjiro pleaded and argued. Everythign got settled down when Demon Slayer leader Kagaya Ubuyashiki allowed Nezuko to stay with Tanjiro and they both are allowed in Demon Slayer corp under the corp watch.
Mugen Train Arc.
After the Hashira meeting, Tanjiro and his team got another mission to investigate and kill the demon responsible for the disappearance of people on a train, along with the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. They discovered that the train was infested by the Lower Moon Enmu, one of the Twelve Kizuki. Enmu trapped people in dreams to capture humans and devour them. Tanjiro and his team somehow managed to overcome Enmu’s trick and kill him.
After that, Akaza, an Upper Moon Three, appeared and challenged Rengoku to either turn into a demon or fight him. Rengoku, in order to save the other Demon Slayers, fought Akaza alone. Even though Akaza was more powerful, Rengoku gave him a very tough fight. Akaza was forced to retreat as sunrise approached, and he ran away. Rengoku was fatally injured and died with pride. Rengoku’s sacrifice inspired Tanjiro and the others to become stronger and seek vengeance.
Entertainment District arc.
Another mission led Tanjiro and his team, along with the flamboyant Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, to investigate demon activity in Yoshiwara’s red-light district. They discovered that the demons responsible were siblings Daki and Gyutaro (Upper Moon Six). An intense battle followed—Tanjiro pushed his limits with Hinokami Kagura, Nezuko’s powers increased, and Tengen continued fighting despite being poisoned. With sheer willpower, they finally defeated the demon siblings. It was the first time in 100 years that an Upper Moon had been slain.
Swordsmith Village arc.
After the battle in the Entertainment District, Tanjiro traveled to the hidden village to repair his broken sword. There he met Muichiro Tokito (Mist Hashira) and Mitsuri Kanroji (Love Hashira). Two powerful Upper Moon demons attacked the Swordsmith Village—Gyokko (Upper Moon Five) and Hantengu (Upper Moon Four).
Muichiro Tokito battled Gyokko. Initially, Muichiro was not doing well, but later, when he regained his memories, he awakened his true strength and defeated Gyokko. Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Genya battled Hantengu’s emotion clones. At first, they were struggling, but later, with Nezuko’s help, they finally defeated Hantengu. Mitsuri played a vital role in protecting everyone in the village and helping in the fight against Hantengu.
The most stunning moment came when Nezuko survived sunlight, making her the very first demon who could walk in daylight.

Hashira Training arc.
Nezuko’s transformation to survive sunlight shocked everyone, and Muzan was drawn to it, as he had been seeking the same ability to withstand daylight. All the Demon Slayers, including Tanjiro, went through very tough training under each Hashira, learning skills based on each Hashira’s expertise. Tanjiro successfully completed all the training under every Hashira. Muzan grew more desperate to capture Nezuko, since she could survive sunlight, and also targeted Ubuyashiki, the Corps’ leader.
Infinity Castle Battle Initial Setup.
Muzan arrived to kill Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the Demon Slayer Corps leader. Kagaya blew up his mansion with a blast, sacrificing himself, his wife, and his two daughters. That blast injured Muzan very badly, but somehow he managed to regenerate while being trapped inside a demon art created by Tamayo with large spikes. At the same time, the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, charged at Muzan and almost beheaded him, but Muzan managed to regenerate instantly. Tamayo then stabbed Muzan with a special drug meant to weaken him.
While all this was happening, other Demon Slayers reached the castle to save Kagaya, but they saw Muzan trapped and realized Kagaya had sacrificed himself. Just as the Demon Slayers were about to attack Muzan with their breathing forms, Muzan summoned Nakime, who then trapped everyone inside the Infinity Castle, where all the demons were hiding.
This finally sets the stage for the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie, where all the Demon Slayers will be fighting against demons, the Upper Rank Moons, and finally Muzan.
